Congratulations to the Ph.D. students in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia who have earned externally-funded graduate research fellowships so far this year. The list includes 6 new National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellows (NSF-GRFP), 6 new American Heart Association Graduate Research Fellows, and 2 students earning individual fellowships from the National Institutes of Health.

Additionally, two alumni from last summer's NSF-funded REU in Multi-scale Systems Bioengineering and Biomedical Data Science are new National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellows.

By the time they graduate, 55 percent of UVA BME doctoral students will have earned a prestigious named fellowship from the National Science Foundation, American Heart Association, National Institutes of Health, the University of Virginia or a private foundation. Last year, the department's Ph.D. students earned $730,000 in competitive funding to support their research and scholarship.
