Research @ UVA Engineering
Engineering for the Cyber FutureOur researchers are not merely reacting to the cyber age, we are catalyzing it. Machine learning, cybersecurity, high performance computing, intelligent memory systems, avalanche photodiodes, ultra-low-power chips: These are just some of the technologies essential to such next-generation projects as the Internet of Things and 100 Gbps Ethernet, and they are just some of the areas in which UVA Engineering holds world-class expertise.

Christopher Deppmann
Associate Professor of Biology Associate Professor of Biomedical EngineeringChristopher Deppman has been interested in the mechanisms underlying long-distance signaling in the context of nervous system development since he was a post-doctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the laboratory of David Ginty (now at Harvard).
Madhur Behl
Dr. Madhur Behl is an associate professor in the departments of Computer Science, and Systems and Information Engineering, and a member of the Cyber-Physical Systems Link Lab at the University of Virginia.
Matthew Burkett
Matt Burkett joined the University of Virginia faculty in 2022 after holding several positions in the private sector as the Vice President of Research for the investment firm, LOC Advisers, and as a Senior Director for Data & Analytics at the Ankura Consulting Group.
Brad Campbell
Brad joined the University of Virginia in 2017 as a member of the Link Lab after receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. His research interests broadly include wireless embedded systems, with a focus on new energy-harvesting sensors, networks of connected "things", and application-driven sensing systems and deployments.
Qing (Cindy) Chang
T. Donna Chen
Dr. Chen joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Virginia in August 2015.
Seokhyun Chung
Teresa B. Culver
My lifelong love for the outdoors translated directly into the study of environmental and water resource engineering. At UVa, I have the honor of working with a new generation of engineers who will work to create a sustainable future.
Afsaneh Doryab
Afsaneh Doryab's research is at the intersection of ubiquitous computing, AI, HCI, and health. She works on computational modeling of human behavior (incl. Activity Recognition) from data streams collected via mobile, wearable, and embedded sensors.
Sebastian Elbaum
My research aims to build dependable systems through domain-specific analysis techniques. My teaching focuses on instilling cost-effective software development principles. I am a founding member of the LESS Lab.
