Congratulations to UVA Engineering's cyber defense team!UVA Engineering's cyber defense team won the 2020 Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition Wild Card Round. Yonghwi Kwon, assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, leads the team.
The Wild Card Round was held on April 11 and included 26 teams, with the winner advancing to the national competition. Teams were provided with eight computers running both Windows and Linux operating systems. The challenge was to secure the machines, within a pre-defined scenario and purpose/function, in a four-hour time period. The process included securing user accounts, identifying malware, applying strong security policies and updating software.

The team will advance to the virtual National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition taking place on May 22-23. This is the third year that UVA Engineering has participated in the competition, having been named the national winner in each of the past two years.
