VEO Class Schedule 2024 Summer

SYS 6581-600 Modeling and Management of Supply Chains
Class number: 12331
Instructor: Robert Riggs
online asynchronous

This course introduces students to the historic and modern methods and techniques for modeling and managing supply chain and logistics systems. The course covers both the managerial and technical side of supply chain management. Topics covered in this course include (but are not limited to) forecasting, inventory control/management, transportation systems, the bullwhip effect, risk analytics, and contemporary supply chain best practices.

SYS 6582-600 Intro to Lean Enterprise and Six Sigma
Class number: 10559
Instructor: Robert Riggs
online asynchronous

This course covers an introduction to Lean enterprise and Six Sigma and will introduce students to various process improvement tools and techniques. These tools/techniques include (but are not limited to) DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control), value stream mapping, process mapping, gage R&R, data analysis, multivari-analysis, design of experiments, statistical process control, and process capability analysis. Through this course, students will gain enough proficiency to apply these tools, techniques, and methodologies to real-world situations. Upon completion of the course, students will be prepared for a Green Belt Six Sigma certification exam.

Civil Engineering Courses

CE 5500-600 Construction Planning, Scheduling, and Control
Class number: 10558
Instructor: Diana Franco Duran
online asynchronous

This course is purpose-built to provide you with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to plan, schedule, and control complex projects. You will not only grasp the fundamental principles but also gain hands-on experience, preparing you to oversee intricate projects and ensure their successful completion. Key course components include mastering the Critical Path Method as well as Resource-Based Scheduling techniques. Through hands-on experience with Oracle's Primavera P6 software and guidance from Plan Academy, you gain proficiency in scheduling software and real-world project scenarios.

CE 5500-601 Engineering Design and Practice I
Class number: 11075
Instructor: Lindsay Burden
online asynchronous

Applies basic engineering principles, analytical procedures, and design methodology to special problems of current interest in civil engineering. Topics for each semester are announced at the time of course enrollment.

CE 5500-602 Adv Technologies for Resilient Design
Class number: 11076
Instructor: Osman Ozbulut
online asynchronous

This course will familiarize students pursuing a degree in civil engineering or architecture with various innovative systems and technologies that have demonstrated considerable potential to mitigate response of structures under dynamic loads.  The course will introduce the fundamentals of passive energy dissipation systems and seismic isolation systems for achieving high performance objectives and resilient design of structures. Practical applications of these technologies will be presented and discussed.

CE 6775-600 Theory of Structural Stability
Class number: 11080
Instructor: Jose Gomez
online asynchronous

Introduces the elastic stability of structural and mechanical systems. Studies classical stability theory and buckling of beams, trusses, frames, arches, rings and thin plates and shells. Also covers the derivation of design formulas, computational formulation and implementation. Taught concurrently with AM 6750. Prerequisite: Instructor permission.
