About Zachary:
I am a graduating BS Commerce & BS CS 2nd major student. I've always loved the intersection of business and computer science and glad that I pursued both during my time at UVA. I'm passionate about data science/visualization and cybersecurity, but I've recently been exploring ways to use embedded devices. I have also been getting into game design and cryptocurrencies. This semester, I made both of these into independent studies and got the opportunity to explore ways to use my CS skills on fun projects.
I picked up a few hobbies during the pandemic, including photography and digital art. I've been involved with Brown College and Japan Club for the past few years. Having done a study abroad in Japan in Summer 2018, I hope to visit again after restrictions have ended. Even after graduation, I still have plans to stay involved in research at UVA.

How Zachary achieved success this year:
Optimism and positivity were the two key things to success this year. It's easy to fall into a slump due the restrictions and online format, but making the most of each day helped pull me through to the end. Frequently meeting with friends online or in small social distancing groups helped maintain some normality. Finding new pandemic hobbies and enjoying them through school year was a great way to mix things up during periods of high restrictions. Unless you pursue new things or new applications of old ones, the days begin to feel monotonous and unyielding.
