Ceremony Locations, Times, Tickets

  • Saturday, May 18 - BACS Diploma Ceremony

    Students receiving their Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from the College of Arts & Sciences:

    Fair-Weather Location: John Paul Jones Arena (2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.)

    Inclement-Weather Location: John Paul Jones Arena (2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.)

    Severe-Weather Location: John Paul Jones Arena (2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.)

  • Sunday, May 19 - BSCS, Master's, & P.h.D. Degrees in CS

    Student receiving their Bachelor of Science, Masters, or Ph.D. Degree in Computer Science from the Engineering School:

    Fair-Weather Location: John Paul Jones (3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.)

    Inclement-Weather Location: Aquatics and Fitness Center (4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.)

    Severe-Weather Location: Aquatics and Fitness Center (4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.)

  • Diploma Ceremony Tickets

    All guests attending the Computer Science diploma ceremonies must have tickets (separate from the Lawn Ceremony tickets).  

    If you are not able to pick up the tickets in person, you can get them the day of the ceremony upon arrival.  

    Each graduating student can receive six (6) tickets for their guests. Ticket pick-up information:  

    CS Front Office (Rice Hall 527)  
    Monday, April 22, 2024 – Thursday, May 16, 2024  
    10:00 AM – 3:00 PM 
    *Student ID is required for verification*  

CS Students - On Graduation Day:

  • Please arrive at your graduation location at least 30 to 45 minutes before the start of the ceremony.
  • While attendance at graduation exercises is not mandatory, but those who do participate are expected to wear cap and gown or be dressed in suitable, dignified attire.
  • Note that there will be no food or snacks available at the diploma ceremony sites, and a limited about of water will be provided. Please inform your guests to plan accordingly.
  • If you still need to pick up tickets, you may do so as you enter the venue. 
  • Check in at the desk when arriving at your graduation location to pick up your name card. You will need this when you walk across the stage to hand to the Name Reader. 
  • Graduating students will be seated as they arrive, and not in alphabetical order. Guests will be seated behind and around the student rows.
  • Faculty Marshals will be on hand to direct you or answer any questions you may have. 
  • Once the ceremony begins and it is time to process towards the stage, the Faculty Marshals will direct each row one at a time to stand up and walk in a line to the stage. When it is your turn to walk across the stage, you will hand your name card to the Name Reader and stand at the mark facing the audience while your name is read and then, exit across the stage and return to your seat. A photo will also be taken during this time.
  • Actual diplomas will be mailed within six weeks of final exercises/after the actual degree conferral date to the student’s identified diploma mailing address. 
  • Photos will be taken by Grad Images during the awarding of your diploma. The company has provided a website for you to preregister for your photographs at HTTP://WWW.GRADIMAGES.COM. You may also contact them at (800) 261-2576. There is no obligation to purchase photos. 
  • After all graduates have been recognized, there will be a final congratulatory speech made by the Chair of the Department which will conclude the ceremony.
