Community Partnerships

The UVA Link Lab is dedicated to supporting the local community through various outreach and educational opportunities. A few of the current community partnerships include:

  • Charlottesville High School (CHS) Engineering

Link Lab students serve as mentors in a formal mentorship program with CHS. Link Lab mentors work with a team of CHS students on their semester-long engineering projects. Media: https://www.29news.com/2024/08/23/uva-engineering-students-mentor-local-high-schoolers/

  • C4K

Link Lab students serve as mentors for kids in the local community to encourage interest in STEAM topics through project-based learning.

  • Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

Link Lab students and faculty support ongoing tours, demonstrations, and engagement with research for local and regional SWE organizations

  • Engineering-Girls

The UVA Link Lab participates in a unique collaboration between Charlottesville Women in Tech, Tech-Girls and the School of Education and Human Development to provide a variety of immersive engineering experiences. Last year, the students visited a lab to learn about surgical robots.

  • Kid*Vention

Link Lab students participate in this one-day event by showcasing some of the research happening in the Link Lab to expose kids to exciting engineering projects. Last year, our volunteers showcased Spot, the robot dog to more than 1200 visitors, mostly kids ages 2-10 and their families.

  • CBIC Tech Tour

The CBIC Tech Tour is a day-long event that introduces area middle and high school students to our region’s technology companies and exposes students to the diverse career possibilities offered by our regional technology community.
