About Fan:
I'm Fan Yao, a second-year Ph.D. student co-advised by Prof. Haifeng Xu and Prof. Hongning Wang. My research interest includes online learning, algorithm design in multi-agent systems, and their applications in recommendation and information retrieval systems. Beyond my research, I'm also crazy about cooking and playing tennis: I cook cuisine around the world and like to analyze recipes from a theoretical perspective to create new dishes; I've been playing tennis for 9 years and I'm sure it is gonna be a life long hobby. I'm also an amateur photographer, mainly focusing on landscape photography. Feel free to ping me if you share similar interests, either in academic or non-academic! I'm happy to make new friends.
How Fan achieved success this year:
I've always had the passion to help others. So when I'm TA-ing, I care about students' concerns and enjoy helping them from the bottom of my heart. I also want to thank Prof. Haifeng Xu, the instructor of the two courses I have been involved in. He provided me with plenty of opportunities to practice the teaching skills, e.g., designing a insightful problem set for homework, preparing and giving mini-lectures. Without his decent guidance, I couldn't have achieved all this.
