Julia C. Spencer

Raised in NYC, Spencer's affinity for Charlottesville grew when she moved to study math at UVA in 2014. Her thesis focused on he linearized Navier-Stokes equations. Soon after she graduated, she started teaching at Mary Baldwin College and then moved back to teach math at UVA's Applied Math program. Outside work, she enjoys yoga and puzzles.
Jennifer F Marley

Jennifer Marley teaches applied mathematics. Her research interests include optimal power flow, iIntegration and control of renewable generation sources, integration and control of energy storage devices and power system optimization.
James W. Lark, III

James W. Lark is Associate Professor, Academic General Faculty in the Center for Applied Mathematics and Dept. of Systems and Information Engineering, as well as Affiliated Faculty, Dept. of Statistics. He recieved his B.S. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1977 and Ph.D. from UVA in 1990.
Hui Ma

Hui Ma received her Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2012. Before joining UVA, she was an assistant professor at Black Hills State University for two years. At UVA, she teaches applied math courses to engineering students. Her goal in teaching is to make mathematics a joyful and successful experience.
Heze Chen

Heze Chen is an Assistant Professor in the Center for Applied Math. He joined the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Virginia as a graduate student in 2017, where he obtained both his MS and PhD degrees in Structural Engineering. His academic journey has fostered his commitment to teaching and learning.
Farzad S. Dizaji

I received my first Master of Science degree in the realm of earthquake engineering from the Iran University of Science & Technology (Centre of excellence for fundamental structural studies).
Deepyaman Maiti

Deep Maiti instructs Applied Mathematics courses and our cornerstone first year Engineering Foundations course sequence. He also serves as a first year academic advisor, working closely with the Dean’s Office. His current research interests are in the field of using statistical tools in educational research.
Christian (Chris) J. Hellings
Chris Hellings is an assistant professor in the Applied Mathematics Department, with interests in operator theory, the mathematics of voting, and undergraduate math education. Before entering academia, he was a mathematical analyst for Metron Inc., a consulting company in Northern Virginia.
Asif Mahmood

Asif Mahmood received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University at Buffalo in 2012. Before coming to UVA, he worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Ohio University, as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Pennsylvania State University, and as Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
