    UVA Engineering Alumnus Wins IAAI Deployed Application Award

    Asif Salekin, assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University won the 'IAAI Deployed Application Award,' for his paper “Preclinical Stage Alzheimer’s Disease Detection Using Magnetic Resonance Image Scans.” The Annual Conference on Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence, or IAAI, is a leading conference for highly innovative realizations of AI technology.


    Matthew B. Dwyer Receives ACM SIGSOFT Impact Paper Award

    Matthew B. Dwyer, Robert Thomson Distinguished Professor of Computer Science, and colleagues George S. Avrunin, professor emeritus in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and James C. Corbett, researcher with Google, were selected for the Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group on Software Engineering, or ACM SIGSOFT, Impact Paper Award.

    Homa Alemzadeh Aids Successful Kick-off Event for IFIP WG10.4’s Intelligent Vehicle Dependability and Security Project

    Homa Alemzadeh, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Virginia, shared her expertise in resilient cyber-physical systems with members of the International Federation for Information Processing during the winter meeting of its Working Group on Dependable Computing and Fault Tolerance.

    UVA Engineering Ph.D. Alumni Elevated to Fellow Status

    Two UVA Engineering computer science Ph.D. alumni have been elevated fellow status. Chenyang Lu, Fullgraf Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and director of the Cyber-Physical Systems Laboratory at Washington University in St. Louis, has been elevated to ACM Fellow. Lu was recognized for contributions to adaptive real-time systems, real-time virtualization, and wireless cyber-physical systems. He received his Ph.D. from UVA Engineering in 2001 and was advised by John A. Stankovic, BP America Professor of Computer Science and director of the Link Lab.

    Bronis de Supinski, chief technology officer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, has been elevated to IEEE Fellow, and he was recognized for leadership in the design and use of large-scale computing systems. He received his Ph.D. from UVA Engineering in 1998 and was advised by Paul F. Reynolds, professor emeritus of computer science.

    2021 Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Award Recipients

    Computer science students Vivian Chen and Chenghan Zhou have both received an Honorable Mention in the Computing Research Association Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher competition. Nominees were commended for making significant contributions as authors or coauthors on multiple papers, and being involved in the development of software and apps. Chen is being avised by Lu Feng, an assistant professor with joint appointments in the Department of Computer Science and Department of Engineering Systems and Environment.  Zhou is being advised by Haifeng Xu, Alan Batson Career Enhancement Assistant Professor of Computer Science.
