Professor Acton’s laboratory at UVA is called VIVA - Virginia Image and Video Analysis. They specialize in biological image analysis problems. The research emphases of VIVA include machine learning for image and video analysis, AI for education, tracking, segmentation, and enhancement.

Homa Alemzadeh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science at UVA. She is also affiliated with the UVA Link Lab, a multi-disciplinary center for research and education in Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). Before joining UVA, she was a Research Staff Member at the IBM TJ Watson Research Center.

Adam Barnes earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1992, and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1995. In 2019 he moved to the University of Virginia to teach the next generation of engineers. He is an ASEE member and interested in advancing engineering and science in both rising engineers and the general public.

Laura Barnes is a professor in the Department of Systems and Information Engineering. She is the Associate Director of Link Lab and directs the Sensing Systems for Health Lab which focuses on designing impactful, technology-enabled solutions for improving health and well-being.

Dr. Madhur Behl is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science, and an Amazon Scholar
He conducts research in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, and is the founder and team principal of UVA's Cavalier Autonomous Racing team.

Nicola Bezzo is an Associate Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Virginia.

Dr. Brown is Founding Director of the Data Science Institute, the W.S. Calcott Professor in the Systems and Information Engineering Department and Co-Director of the Translational Health Institute of Virginia, University of Virginia.

Benton H. Calhoun received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Computer Science from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, in 2000. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA, in 2002 and 2006, respectively.

Brad is a faculty member in the Computer Science Department, the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, and the Link Lab. His group researchers and develops the next generation of low power, wireless, and secure Internet of Things systems to help make buildings and cities more sustainable.

Afsaneh Doryab's research is at the intersection of ubiquitous computing, AI, HCI, and health. She works on computational modeling of human behavior (incl. Activity Recognition) from data streams collected via mobile, wearable, and embedded sensors. 

Her areas of research include computer architecture and parallel and distributed systems. Her research lies at the intersection of computer hardware and software with a particular focus on data movement.

Arsalan Heydarian is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering as well as the UVA Link Lab. His research broadly focuses on user-centered design, construction, and operation of intelligent infrastructure with the objective of enhancing their sustainability, adaptability, and resilience. 

Mathews Jacob is is an expert in machine learning algorithms for biomedical imaging. He develops advance magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods for brain, lung, and heart applications.

His research spans the broad domain of computer architecture and systems, with a particular focus on designing efficient and resilient GPU- and accelerator-rich platforms. 

Dr. Johnson has served on the faculty since 1984 and was promoted to Full Professor in 1994. He was a co-founder of Privaris, a biometrics security company, and served as Chief Executive Officer from 2002 to 2006 while on leave from the University of Virginia. 

Li's research interests are generally in AI, Data Mining, and Machine Learning. As a result of his research work, he has published over 200 papers in high-impact venues. He has won several prestigious awards, and his work is supported by NSF, DOE, ONR, JP Morgan, Netflix, Cisco, Snap, and NEC America.

Felix Xiaozhu Lin joined the Department of Computer Science as an associate professor in August 2020. Prior to his appointment at UVA Engineering, Lin was a tenured associate professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University.

Dr. Rohde develops mathematical and computational predictive models with applications in pathology, radiology, systems biology, and mobile sensing.

Before joining UVA as an Associate Professor in 2016, Haiying Shen received her B.S. degree from Tongji University, China in 2000, and her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Wayne State University in 2004 and 2006. In addition to teaching, she is an Associate Editor for the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking (TON) and the IEEE Networking Letters (NL).

Cong Shen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UVa. He obtained his PhD degree from UCLA. His research interests are in AI/ML for wireless, reinforcement learning, in-context learning and transformers, LLMs, and federated learning.

Kevin Skadron's research interests cover a wide range of Computer Architecture topics, including hardware acceleration, memory architecture and processing in and near memory (PIM/PNM), automata and pattern-matching/regular-expression acceleration, and hardware support for debugging, and hardware design verification.
 

Mircea R. Stan is teaching and doing research in the areas of AI hardware, Processing in Memory, Cyber-Physical Systems, Computational RFID, Low Power, Spintronics, and Nanoelectronics.

Ashish Venkat is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Virginia, where he joined after obtaining a Ph.D. from UC San Diego. His work has been published at top-tier venues such as ISCA, MICRO, ASPLOS, HPCA, IEEE S&P, and USENIX Security, and has received funding from NSF, DARPA, SRC, and Inte

Amanda Watson’s research focuses on wearable technology for healthcare and athletic performance. Amanda Watson is an Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Virginia. She is also affiliated with the UVA Link Lab, a multi-disciplinary center for research and education in Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS).

Professor Zhang's research focuses on developing novel machine learning and AI models in the field of medical and biological imaging. Her current work spans generative modeling, medical image and shape analysis, with applications in cardiovascular imaging, neuroimaging, and computer-assisted surgery.
