Daniel Abebayehu
Assistant ProfessorDan Abebayehu, PhD, studies fibrosis and how different types of fibroblasts could promote tissue regeneration, instead of scar formation. Dr. Abebayehu's research has been supported by an NIH Mosaic Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) which provides promising postdoctoral… -
J. Milton Adams
Professor EmeritusAdams earned his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from UVA in 1976 and returned to join the faculty in 1978. His “Physiology” class in the Department of Biomedical Engineering has a reputation of being one of the best courses in the Engineering School. In addition, he still accepts a full load of academic advisees annually.

Shannon Barker
Associate Professor, Academic General Faculty, Teaching Track, Biomedical Engineering, Undergraduate Program DirectorShannon Barker, Ph.D., focuses on ensuring that the BME undergraduate program's educational objectives and learning outcomes, as well as its curriculum, reflect an innovative and highly effective learning environment that meets the needs of all of its students, as well as employers… -
Stuart S. Berr
Professor of Radiology and Medical Imaging Professor of Biomedical EngineeringOur laboratory is involved with developing magnetic resonance (MR) techniques as a tool for basic biomedical research. We have developed noninvasive, non-contrast-enhanced methods for imaging blood perfusion, demonstrated to be effective in imaging blood flow to the kidneys, lungs… -
Silvia Salinas Blemker
Professor, Biomedical EngineeringSilvia Blemker uses experimental and computational models to characterize the relationships between muscle structure, biomechanical properties, biology, and function in order to develop new treatments for musculoskeletal disease
